National Car Rental Discounts & Coupon Codes Contract ID's and Coupon Codes There are several ways to save on National car rentals - Contract ID's and Coupon Codes. Contract ID's are assigned to various organziations that have discount agreements with National (corporate partners, big-box stores, airline partnerships, etc). Contract ID's are generally good for up to 20% off rentals (some up to 25%). Coupon Codes are just that - specific deals that require a unique code. These are issued periodically by either National directly or by a travel/marketing partner. It is worth spending some time trying to combine various Contract ID's and Coupon Codes to see which combination will yield the best results for your rental. This can take some time but is generally worth the extra effort (some Contract ID's provide deeper discounts on their own than others even when the others are combined with coupons - try as many as you can without going nuts). It is important to note that there is rarely a penalty for cancellation prior to your booking date (unless you pre-pay, etc). So, if you find a reasonable deal, book it - chances are, you won't have any problem cancelling it if something better comes along (be sure to read the fine print though).
National Emerald Club: National allows you to pre-register via their Emerald Club program and skip the lines at the airport. The program is free and relatively easy. Once registered, when you rent a car, you can skip the lines and paper-work and head straight to the car aisle. There are two reservation types within the standard Emerald Club:
Emerald Aisle: Reserve a standard size car and upon arrival at the lot, head to the Emerald Aisle. You may choose any car within the Emerald Aisle even larger cars, SUVs, etc.
Emerald Reserve: If you'd like to guarantee a larger class, you can select your desired class at the time of reservation. When you arrive at the lot, simply head to the designated class aisle (full size, SUV, minivan, etc) and select the vehicle of your choice within that class.
